FAQ 6 - What companies are looking for uranium in Weld County?
Six companies were known to be looking for uranium or planning uranium projects in Weld County as of September 2007. According to the Northern Colorado Business Report (10/1/07), Canadian company Powertech Uranium Corp. has proposed uranium extraction in a 6,000-acre area where it has mineral rights. Geovic Energy Corp., another company founded in Canada, has 56 mining leases (covering 15,500 acres).
Other companies with uranium leases or agreements are Contex Energy Co. of Denver with 7 leases; Black Range Minerals of Australia with 6 agreements; and Energy Metals Corp. of Canada, a subsidiary of Uranium One Inc. Individuals also report activity by Placer Energy of Littleton.
