Just say no to poisoned land Print

Currently there is a toxic threat to our most treasured land. Hard-rock mining activity has been increasing to a hazardous degree. With the increase of value of gold, in the past five years mining companies have staked more than 800-plus claims within five miles of the Grand Canyon.

The invasive process of mining for such recourses as gold, copper and uranium make it impossible to contain such toxic chemicals within their respective mining site. Especially when you add the current mining laws regulating such activity was created in 1872 and has yet to be reformed. Because of this destructive formula, hard-rock mining is the number-one source of toxic pollution in the United States.

Now if you like the thought of our most precious monuments being destroyed and enjoy the taste of cyanide and sulfur in your water, you may rest on you laurels. However, if this does concern you, Please call Sen. Ken Salazar to support strict regulation when hard rock mining is brought before the Senate this February for reform.
