Stop uranium mine Print

I cannot believe that a state and/or counties in which water is such a precious commodity would allow a country - even ours - to mine uranium in Weld or any other county in this state. The permit for the drilling through the aquifer is based on old-fashioned greed and complete lack of any common sense or, in the old-timer's terminology, "horse sense."

For any part of county, state and/or federal government to allow uranium mining and then to utter even one comment out of the other side of their mouths about "living green" or fighting to protect this planet from "global warming" is complete and utter hypocrisy!

Powertech officials state this process is completely safe (would they claim otherwise?) - excuse me - nothing is completely "safe." In the event of an accident, will Powertech correct the damage? Supply everyone affected with uncontaminated water? Pay all future costs of health issues that will arise from the contamination of water, air, land and everything relying on those resources for life? Pay pre-contamination value for all of the properties affected?

These are only a few of the things that should have been considered before any permits were issued.

Again, government entities have failed us. It is not Weld County's sovereign right to make this decision. An accident will not just damage Weld County - it damages all of Colorado and everyone "downwind."

Someone put a stop to this before it is too late!
